Welcome to Rose Cottage self catering near Bowness on Solway, our cottage is a lovely getaway far from noise and light pollution set in a hamlet called Cardurnock, pronounced 'Cardurnuk' on a peninsula opposite the Scottish coast. Rose Cottage sleeps two and is (small) dog friendly, it is well equipped and has a large garden that is surrounded by fields to the sides and rear. There are some walks from Rose Cottage onto the shore around the corner and at Anthorn or down the lanes (lonnings) and there are many RSPB nature reserves locally indeed many visitors come to the area for bird watching. Within a few miles there are some very good places to eat that we go to and we list them on the local area page, also are places you should see. The Roman fort of Maia was the first fort on the Western side of Hadrian's Wall which is at Bowness on Solway about four miles away but the wall continued around the peninsula as a wooden palisade and there were two mile fortlets within a few hundred yards of Rose Cottage. Cardurnock is adjacent to an old air field 'HMS Nuthatch' a Naval airbase that operated from 1918 to 1961 and today you'll see the aerials that still send out the GMT time signal, the 'pips' and messages to submarines. The site is unmanned and owned by the M.O.D. If you are walking Hadrians Wall then we do a one night stay booking and the bus service stops nearby. Important - June 2025 *Currently the Wifi is terrible, they are installing fibre... it will make wifi calls but web pages load slowly, forget internet TV, the smart TV isn't smart. Freeview works though, download your Spotify favourite tracks and blue tooth to the Bose speaker, a book works, the log burner stove works, the garden is lovely, have a holiday.
